About This Role:


  • Ensure that work is completed to a high standard, in an acceptable time frame.
  • Provide continuous survey support for Mine operations as well as other Department when necessary.
  • Provide survey and lead Survey Assistants as required.

In This Role You Wil:


Health, Safety and Environment

  • Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of all Survey Technicians under or assigned to his / her supervision.
  • Assure that safety standards are adhered to.
  • Conduct periodic safety meetings and inspections.
  • Attend monthly safety inspections and meetings.

Survey Data Calculation and Aggregation

  • Operate field Equipment like, Global Positioning System (GPS), Total station, Level, etc. to capture asbuilt data for volume calculations and actual surfaces for Engineering work.
  • Provide detailed existing topographical and spatial information to assist in predicting volumes estimations.
  • Utilize CAD Software in the calculation and computation of volume and design determinations.
  • Analyze and edit spatial data to verify the integrity and accuracy of data for Operate field Equipment like, GPS, Total station, Level, etc. to capture asbuilt data for volume calculations and actual surfaces for Engineering work. QA/QC purposes.
  • Collect detailed survey information and translate the collected data into accurate maps.
  • Assist in deformation monitoring for geotechnical activities.

Survey Execution

  • Perform a broad spectrum of surveying functions and produce detailed maps of the Mine Sites.
  • Commission drone surveys using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV's) to conduct efficient mine mapping and aerial surveying services.
  • Maximize effective vehicle and product movements by undertaking routine surveys to measure movements to and from the mining pit and product stockpiles.
  • Utilize the maps generated by the survey to determine project feasibilities.
  • Design emergency maps for the Mine Site and measure ventilation throughout the mine.
  • Control pit/waste dump limits through the determination of line definitions and examination of problem areas.
  • Coordinate the stake out of polygons into the ground to demarcate ore from waste.
  • Oversee that all ore mined is conducted within the boundaries of the polygon stakeouts.
  • Translate/transfer the blast layout design onto the ground by using Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, prior to blasting activities.
  • Operate field GPS, GIS and ArcGIS Equipment to determine asbuilt pickups for volume calculations and defining field points for the Mining Engineers.
  • Provide detailed topographical and spatial designs to assist in predicting earthwork movements and associated costs.

Survey Outcome Reporting

  • Deliver survey volumes to management by providing timely and accurate reports to enable effective decisionmaking.
  • Examine disparities that arise from the Survey and recommend potential adjustments to the Mine Engineer.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise allocated staff member(s) by:
  • leading the Survey Technicians in the execution of tasks.
- assisting with personal career planning.
- conducting performance appraisals.
- recommending further/relevant training courses and development actions.
- recommending salary increases or promotions for staff.
