About This Role:


  • To develop and manage all environmental aspects relating to Ahafo closure, as well as concurrent reclamation and waste management program to ensure compliance to environmental policies, procedures and standards, Ghanaian laws and regulation, as well as Newmont Corporate Environmental Standards.

In This Role You Will:


Closure and Reclamations

  • Coordinate with consultants to conduct relevant studies related to closure and reclamation plans.
  • Lead the collation of all necessary information for Life of Mine closure and reclamation liability costs, as well as the EPA Reclamation Bonding process.
  • Liaise with the Mine Engineering team to build an endtoend Reclamation Plan that accommodates for concurrent reclamation and meets the agreed closure criteria.
  • Develop and fully implement closure and concurrent reclamation programs, according to the Ahafo North or South Reclamation Security Agreement and NGGL's reclamation objectives.
  • Supervise local contractors to execute concurrent reclamation according to the Ahafo North or South Reclamation Security Agreement and NGGL's reclamation objectives. Waste Management
  • Manage the operations of Ahafo North or South waste management facilities to ensure compliance to regulations and Newmont environmental requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessment of potential impacts associated with new and existing hazardous and nonhazardous waste streams.
  • Develop action plans to address and minimise significant environmental risks identified during risk assessment process.
  • Lead the design and implementation of all waste stream management programs associated with the Ahafo North or South process and support activities.
  • Develop/update the Ahafo North or South Waste Management Plan on a periodic basis, or when any significant change in mining, process has been incorporated.

Environmental Reporting

  • Develop and maintain the statistics on the volumes and quantities of wastes generated in the Data Management System for environmental reporting purposes.
  • Prepare environmental reports relating to closure, concurrent reclamation and waste management. Participate in report reviews prior to submission to regulators (i.e. weekly report, monthly report, EPA reports).

Audits and Inspections

  • Conduct environmental inspections and audits.
  • Prepare reports and close out corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

Team Leadership

  • Provide supervisory leadership to the Environmental officers.
  • Oversee that both new and current employees have received all necessary training required to perform their work in an efficient, effective and safe manner.
  • Manage work schedules and performance process for Environmental Officers to ensure efficiency in workplan.
  • Provide guidance, feedback and/or potential solutions to any escalated issues.

Health and Safety

  • Lead Environment department's contribution to the Zero Harm goal of Ahafo North or South with focus on quality Safety Interactions, Inspections, Audits, Risk Assessments & Impact Mitigation and Control Systems.

  • First Degree in Environmental or Natural Resource Management or Engineering.
