                                          Supply Chain Director Egypt

Agthia is a major powerhouse in the field of F&B in the region. Established in the UAE with multiple subsidiaries across the region, Agthia has recently developed a 2025 growth vision based on aggressive plans for expansion and growth via mergers & acquisition. I was hired to lead the supply chain function for Egypt business, including Al-Ain, Atyab and other planned acquisitions in the pipeline. My responsibilities include:

  • Leading the integration of Egypt business with other regional Agthia businesses in similar business categories; part of the overall Agthia restructure into category structure

Egypt Foods Group is a major local snack-house owning a portfolio of snacks including potato chips, extruded corn, pellets, rusks, chocolates & Cakes. I was hired to lead and direct the company’s supply chain. My responsibilities included:

  • Evaluating current supply chain setup within the company & Preparing roadmap for supply chain vision, gap analysis and transition steps
  • Aligning supply chain strategies with overall company expansion plans in terms of capital investments requirements, ROI assessments & budgeting

  • October 2016 – November 2019                [Olayan Financing Company / October 6th]

                                          Supply Chain Director Rashidi El- Mizan

Olayan Financing Company is a Major Financing and Investment Conglomerate based in Saudi Arabia. As of 2016, it acquired Rashidi El-Mizan (REM); a local manufacturer of Halawa, Tahini, Jam, Tomato Paste & Other packed grains, and pulses. With aggressive plans for expansion and growth following the acquisition, managing the transition phase, and setting the platform for the aggressive targets was a particularly challenging endeavor. Through my working period in OFC some of my achievements were:

  • Supply Chain restructure including manpower replacement, re-distribution of roles and responsibilities, physical location renovation and upgrade & Objectives based management
  • Upgrading & diversifying supplier database for major material, eliminating eminent risk of sole suppliers and leveraging competition resulting in significant savings
  • Launching an S&OP process within the company for the first time
  • Finalizing storage capacity and warehouse upgrade plans
  • Leading projects for introducing Rice, canned beans, Hummus, Pulses and others new lines of business, with all related contracting and execution steps

                                          Group Supply Chain Director

I was promoted to handle the full scope of supply chain (770 Employees / 82 Mio EGP Operational Budget) for Juhayna Group. In addition to managing my previous scope, the following responsibilities were added:

  • Managing the company’s procurement activities covering Direct and indirect materials as well as services and contracts (3.2 Bio EGP Annually)
  • Managing the company’s warehouses for 5 plants, 30 DCs, as well as the central starting material warehouse (40,000 Pallet Positions)
  • Managing the company’s customs and freight scope (2,700 Containers Annually)
  • Managing the company’s Facility management and maintenance for all DCs.

Through my working period in this assignment some of my achievements were:

  • Realizing annual material savings of more than 30 Mio EGP despite Forex negative impact.
  • Reducing demurrage by more than 75%.
  • Leading the supply chain function integration between Juhayna and Arla in the joint venture (ARJU) initiated in 2015.
  • Successfully starting the operation of 7 new DCs in record time and 2 major plant warehouse upgrades (High Bay Fully Automated / State of the art Gravity rollers).
  • Preparing the company storage capacities and strategies 5 years’ plan.


 

  • April 2011 – December 2013                                                        [Juhayna / October 6th]

                                           Planning & Logistics Associate Director

Juhayna is a local 6 Bio EGP turnover dairy, fermented products and juice manufacturer; A market leader in Dairy and one of the major players in juice. With 5 plants and 30 DCs across Egypt, its planning, distribution, and logistics are among the most challenging. My responsibilities included:

  • Managing the demand cycle and S&OP process for the company including forecasting, compiling input from departments, optimizing unconstrained demand, testing against RCCP & Materials availability, and fine-tuning demand.
  • Handling the materials planning through translating demand figures into materials requirements and coordinating on-time delivery.
  • Preparing distribution plans for both chilled and dry products from plants to DCs.
  • Executing daily shipments from plants to DCs through company owned fleet as well as rented trailers (50 Trailers / 0.5 Mio Tons Shipped Annually)
  • Managing all fleet administration and maintenance activities for the company fleet of more than 1200 vehicles of different sizes / models.
  • Execution of all Pre-Order deliveries to Chains, B2B, Tenders and Wholesale customers. (120 Jumbo Trucks / 35% of total company volume)

Through my working period in this assignment some of my achievements were:

  • Restructuring the supply chain team to be more lean, efficient, and productive.
  • Securing average product availability of 99.6% across different categories.
  • Preparing a 5 years’ strategic plan covering capacities vs. demand across all plants.
  • Improving heavy fleet utilization from 55% to 91%, resulting in savings of more than 4 Mio EGP annually, while maintaining a 99.8% OTIF Delivery score.
  • Improving PreOrder fleet utilization from 67% to 78%, saving more than 1.6 Mio EGP annually, while improving customer service level from 95% to 99%.
  • Introducing KPIs and daily management systems across the function.


 

  • July 2008 – April 2011                                                                   [Scitra / Sharjah, UAE]

                                           Site Operations Manager

I was a Site Operations Manager for Scitra; A local FMCG manufacturing company in the UAE. Scitra is a Co-Manufacturer for several multi-national customers including Reckitt Benckiser, Unilever, Henkel, Johnson & Johnson, PZ Cussons, Johnson Diversey, Numerous private labels, as well as the company’s own brands. The company produces products in 7 different technologies and has seven operational plants in 2 different sites across Sharjah. My team managed Manufacturing, Planning (Materials and production), Logistics (Inbound and outbound) and Warehousing for Sharjah Site. My responsibilities included:

  • Identifying business plans & strategies for the company. Participating in the SWOT evaluation, overall risk management plans and sensitivity analysis as an ExCom member.
  • Delivering a compelling vision for best in class supply chain activities within the organization. Developing plans to achieve this over appropriate timeframes considering organization, processes, KPIs, measures, resources, information flow, reward and recognition, and SAP upgrades.
  • Leading the manufacturing operations for Bar Soap (5 Production Lines) and Detergent Powder (Tower + 7 Packing Lines) Plants in Sharjah Site.
  • Aggressively driving capacity studies and analysis. Putting driving force behind bridging gaps in capacity at minimal capital expenditure through continuous improvement of overall equipment efficiency.
  • Leading the supply chain team to minimize working capital through control over inventory stocks and material flows while maintaining customer service level.
  • Helping to develop a reliable demand management system for local brands, as well as identifying gaps in the demand process with different customers and bridging these gaps through active cooperation to minimize forecast errors and streamline the S&OP procedure.
  • Negotiating, defining and administrating supply agreements with all customers and major suppliers that ensure supply costs are suitably controlled, and service levels agreed, monitored and delivered.
  • Developing detailed storage space requirements plans considering storage demands from customers in a long-term glide-path. Preparing plans to bridge gaps through rentals, capital expenditure and outsourcing.

Through my working period in Scitra some of my achievements were:

  • Upgrading the company demand process with its customers into a more reliable cycle-based process, as well as standardizing capacity planning tools and materials planning techniques and processes, raising the average OTIF across all customers from 78% to 92%.
  • Introducing advanced stock optimization tools and measures allowing better control over inventory. This has allowed reducing the inventory value by almost 13% ongoing and 23% at the end of fiscal year. 2009 year-end inventory was the company’s lowest ever despite growth in volumes by 12% vs. YAGO. 
  • Through deals with transportation companies, ports authorities and clearing agents reducing the annual demurrage paid from over 1 Mio AED to less than 65K AED.
  • Applying WMS in all company warehouses improving the utilization by 11% and allowing release of several rented warehouses giving annual savings of 750K AED.
  • Through encouraging production team to adopt advanced RCO and SMED techniques, reducing the average changeover time (And accordingly increasing capacity and OEE) for soap lines by 25%.
  • Settling 73% of the dead stocks and more than 50% of slow-moving stocks with different customers realizing savings of almost 770K AED and bringing down their percentage of total stock from 8% to 4%. 


 

  • November 2006 – July 2008                                                                    [PepsiCo / Cairo]

                                                                        Egypt SAP Implementation Procurement lead

I led the Procurement module implementation in PepsiCo Egypt. I oversaw this beside my responsibilities as the country technical procurement manager. As of 2008, became fully assigned to the SAP implementation. My responsibilities included:

  • Designing business blueprints translating current and required business model.
  • Preparing all flow charts, organizational structures and RICEFs related.
  • Validating configuration steps through unit & integration testing scenarios.
  • Managing data collection and gathering from different business functions, then supervising and validating data migration from legacy systems to SAP.
  • Acting as a liaison with the business for input on all reports and forms and leading accordingly all MM/Procurement forms and reports design.
  • Participating in the preparation of all relevant training material to be used in training the organization, and later conducting training sessions for users.
  • June 2005 – January 2008                                                                      [PepsiCo / Cairo]

                                                                                  Country Technical Purchasing Manager

I was fully responsible for all purchasing activities for assets, equipment and spare parts for seven plants and 24 DCs across Egypt with an annual spending of almost 120 Million Pounds. My responsibilities included:

  • Managing the whole purchasing cycle for spare parts including getting quotations, negotiating prices and conditions, issuing purchase orders, and following for delivery of goods.
  • Handling all purchases for fixed assets including passenger cars, fleet trucks, sales trailers, sales coolers, sales post-mix equipment, forklifts, and others.
  • Handling all purchases for equipment, line upgrades and production lines.
  • Handling all disposal activities for scrap and depreciated assets.
  • Designing systems, measures and daily management systems for the department.

Through my working period in Pepsi-Cola Procurement some of my achievements were:

  • Preparing the company procurement policy and introducing the department KPIs.

     
  • Netting more than 12 Mio EGP hard savings vs. YAGO over 2 years, equivalent to 35 Mio EGP cost savings vs. budget.
  • Managing to reduce advance payments and LCs by 75% within one year, followed by an aggressive project to improve payment terms that increased average payment days (Weighted) from 5 days to 16 days.
  • Settling 100% of balance accounts with all suppliers through negotiating and reaching final settlements to clear financial books at minimal loss.
  • Leading the delivery of the Aquafina water treatment plant and the new PET blow molder in 2005, a complete new PET line in 2006, three major upgrade projects in 2007, and finalizing negotiations for 2 complete lines in 2008.

                                                                                               Professional Business Consultant

I gave trainings and offered consultancies as a freelancer both directly and through business consulting companies and organizations. The trainings I offered included technical trainings in the field of supply chain as well as management skills. During this period, some of my deliveries were:

  • Conducting a one-week supply chain training for Novartis Pharma at the company's plant in Sawah covering the full scope of supply chain management.
  • Delivering a full supply chain consultancy for Novartis Pharma to increase the overall efficiency of the supply chain. The consultancy included assessment, gap analysis, implementation and auditing.
  • Conducting a supply chain analysis for My Way, a local FMCG manufacturing & direct sales SME, followed by a supply chain consultancy for the whole supply chain in the company’s plant at Al-Obour city.
  • Conducting a supply chain assessment for Architouch, a local furniture manufacturing SME, in the company's plant at Abu Rawash industrial zone.
  • Designing the full product supply scope including developing the supply chain capability and giving technical support to Khadra, local agricultural products packing and distribution SME, in their first product launch.
  • Developing and delivering several management skills trainings in areas like Negotiation SkillsEffective MeetingsProblem Solving Skills, and other management skills areas.


 

  • October 2002 – March 2004                                      [Hewlett Packard-USAID / Cairo]

 Logistics Analyst

I was the Logistics Analyst in the TENOC project. The multi-million dollars’ project was a state of the art Network Operation Center (NOC) built and installed by Hewlett Packard (HP), with General Dynamics (GD) as the Engineer and Funded by the USAID program for Telecom Egypt (TE) as the customer. My responsibilities included but were not restricted to:

  • Supervising spare parts stock and inventory controls for the whole project.
  • Designing the inventory model for different Storeroom items and implementing the model to compute Safety Stock, Reorder point, Economic Order Quantity and all relevant Inventory Parameters for the stocks.
  • Building a full database for storeroom items tracking more than 70 information fields & parameters for 750+ items.
  • Designing and implementing systems and measures for the Logistics department, including storeroom management, Inventory record accuracy, ordering, receiving & issuance cycles, space management and many others.
  • Documenting all processes and SOPs used in the department and writing the major part of the Integrated Logistics Support Plan defining the support given by HP to TE throughout the Warranty Period.

 Supply Planning Manager

I was the Supply Planning Manager for Bar-Soap and Hair care categories in the Company’s plant in October 6th city. My responsibilities included:

  • Materials planning to ensure availability of all materials needed by production lines.
  • Inventory Management for all raw material and finished product to optimize stocks and cash flow while ensuring availability.
  • Production planning for the lines to ensure the availability of finished products for the market while allowing optimum conditions for high process reliability.
  • Projects management through Leading & supervising the execution of new promotions or products.

Through my working period in Procter & Gamble some of my achievements were:

  • Achieving availability (Customer Service Level) of 100% on Raw and Packing material and 99.4% on finished goods.
  • Achieving savings on Materials of 660 $K vs. a target of 110 $K.
  • Reducing total inventory working capital by 1.5 $Mio.
  • Leading the new Bar Soap formula and size launch in July 2001.
