Perform regular inspections of welding work in progress to ensure that the final weldment meets the specified quality standards. This involves visual inspections, as well as non-destructive testing methods like ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, magnetic particle testing, or liquid penetrant testing.
Prepare and maintain inspection records and reports to ensure all welding work is up to code. This may involve documenting nonconformities and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
Review project specifications, Codes & standards to develop welding procedures to guide welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post- heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints and complex post- heating requirements.
Develop and maintain corporate welding procedures (WPS) and welder performance qualification records (WPQRs)
Develop, qualify, write, and certify PQR(s) and WPS(s) for internal stakeholders on-site welding activities.
Ensure compliance with national and international codes and standards such as ISO 3834, ASME Section IX, API 1104, etc.
Train welders on the requirements of the quality standards and provide guidance on how to meet these standards.
Participate in project planning and meetings, advising on welding quality issues, and helping to develop project schedules and budgets.
Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure high levels of performance and safety.
Provide technical advice to the welding team and other stakeholders about welding matters.
Conduct and coordinate root cause analysis and welding related issues.
Operate customized mechanized welding system e.g., welding robot to perform complex filed repairs and component replacement installations.
Ensure all welding equipment is properly maintained and calibrated as per the required standards.
